Vermilion Behavioral Health Systems offers Visions Outpatient Services, which is an outpatient program for adults age 18 and older who are living with mental health and substance use concerns. At our campus in Lafayette, Louisiana, Visions provides structured programming while adults continue living at home and taking part in their daily routines.
What Is the Visions Outpatient Program?
Visions Outpatient Services supports adults who need consistent professional guidance but do not require round-the-clock supervision. Some people enter Visions after completing inpatient care, using outpatient programming as a step-down that reinforces the progress they have already made. However, Visions operates as a stand-alone program, so people may also enter the program directly without having completed a different level of care.
Adults live off-site while they participate in our Lafayette outpatient program so that they can keep up with work, family, and other responsibilities and apply what they learn during programming to real-life situations. Most adults take part in the Visions program for eight to 12 weeks, though each person’s length of stay depends on their individual needs and the progress they make.
Concerns that are commonly addressed in the Visions outpatient program for adults include:
- Anxiety disorders
- Bipolar disorder
- Depression
- Personality disorders
- Substance use disorders
Types of Therapies Offered in Our Adult Outpatient Program
Group therapy is the foundation of our Visions outpatient program in Lafayette, Louisiana. Groups meet daily and are led by members of our social services and nursing teams, giving patients a consistent place to work through challenges alongside peers who understand what they are going through. Group topics vary but may include:
- Anger management
- Coping skills
- Medication education
- Triggers and warning signs
- Relapse prevention
- Trauma
Patients can meet individually with members of our social services team once a month, but they can also request additional sessions when needed. Family sessions are available on an as-needed basis because the people closest to our patients often play a meaningful role in how well they maintain their progress after the program comes to an end.
Our clinicians use evidence-based therapies in the Visions adult outpatient program, including:
- Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT)
- Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT)
- Motivational interviewing
For adults who are working toward recovery from addictions, we incorporate the principles of the 12-Step recovery model into their care plans.
Patients also have the ability to meet with a psychiatrist for medication management services two to three times per week. Psychiatric nurse practitioners are on hand to help monitor the effects of any medications a person may be taking.

Getting Started
Every person who enters our adult outpatient program in Lafayette begins by receiving an assessment through our admissions department. This assessment allows our team to gain an understanding of what you are experiencing and to determine whether outpatient programming is the right fit or a different level of care would better meet your needs.
To reduce barriers that often keep people from getting help, we provide transportation for adults who live within 60 miles of our campus. That radius reaches much of Acadiana, including New Iberia, Opelousas, Breaux Bridge, Crowley, and Abbeville.
